Richard Hunt is best known for dynamic sculptures in which individual industrial forms are combined and metamorphosed to evoke biomorphic entities or forces of nature, and sometimes the forms of plants and animals. Hunt calls his sculptures “hybrid figures” and considers them to be “a kind of bridge between what we experience in nature and what we experience from the urban, industrial, technology-driven society we live in.” Some of Hunt’s sculptures summon ideas of growth or aspiration. In the aptly named Expansive Construction, the upward thrust of the curving projected elements suggests outward movement or a kind of organic growth process. Wings and images of flight also reverberate throughout Hunt’s work.
